Server-Side Software Engineer

We are looking for a software engineer with strong server experience to tackle a variety of technical tasks for LBC Studios. The successful candidate will own their systems end-to-end and influence the direction of our technology while implementing flexible and scalable solutions. The successful candidate is a self-motivated team-player who will implement and maintain many aspects of Hempire’s continued development as well as support any new work that is identified.

This is an office role with the possibility of remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, update, and secure the current scalable server environment
  • Maintain and update the current LBC development infrastructure
  • Optimize server performance
  • Collaborate on the design and development of the server architecture
  • Support the software development life-cycle for the client
  • Maintain, update, and create build pipelines for the developed software and assets using Jenkins and the existing development infrastructure
  • Assess, develop, debug, maintain, and set standards for code
  • Scope and define project requirements
  • Collaborate with in-office and remote team members to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time
  • Drive improvements to process and direction
  • Develop tools, features, pipelines, and frameworks to be used in the development process
  • Take charge on improving our development processes and system architecture
  • Collaborate with project leads to identify engineering tasks
  • Work with designers and engineers to help deliver game features

Position Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a server-side engineer using JAVA and PHP
  • Working knowledge of Spring, Hibernate, and other open-source technologies preferred
  • Working knowledge of PHP for scalable secure server development
  • Multiple shipped titles and backend servers
  • Experience building development build infrastructure and pipelines
  • Ability to comfortably move across high-level technical design, detailed technical design, implementation, and operational support
  • Experience gathering functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and creating project & test plans
  • Experience implementing integrating unit/integration/load tests
  • Familiar with more than one software development methodology, ideally experience with SCRUM and/or KANBAN
  • Working proficiency in English

Junior Client-Side Software Engineer

We are looking for a hard-working junior software engineer with game development experience to tackle a variety of technical tasks for LBC Studios’ first game, and the world’s best weed-growing game, Hempire. Game development is a team sport, so we are looking for someone who loves to communicate and is keen to take ownership of their tasks as they grow in the role. The successful candidate will be keen to learn and will add to our positive team culture of warmth, growth, and open communications.

This is an office role with the possibility of remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute tasks independently but know when to ask for help
  • Contribute to feedback on process and direction
  • Balance and solve problems of product design, development, and data needs
  • Work with designers and senior engineers to help drive game features
  • Provide technical contribution to a team of seasoned developers skilled in front-end technologies
  • Ability to scope and define project requirements
  • Optimize game performance
  • Develop tools, features, and pipelines to be used in the development process
  • Collaborate with project leads to establish engineering tasks and schedules

Position Qualifications

  • 1 – 2 years development experience on mobile game teams
  • 1 – 2 years development using Unity and C#
  • Basic Knowledge of the software development lifecycle management: assess, develop, debug, and maintain code
  • Ability to scope and define project requirements
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle management
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with remote team members to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time
  • Experience working using the SCRUM/Agile methodology and in fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity using GIT for source code management is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment to deliver high-quality work products
  • Ability to contribute to detailed system design and technical specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and initiative, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and quickly acquire proficiency with new skills.
  • Working proficiency in English

Game Designer – Live Ops

LBC Studio’s Game Designers are the vision holders and front-line, in-the-trenches soldiers responsible for designing and executing fun, engaging, monetizing experiences. They are hungry to learn, lead, and grow alongside our rapidly evolving studio and games.

As an LBC designer your passion for video games extends well beyond that of being a player; you are a creator. You strive to understand the mechanics and psychologies behind game experiences. You are always playing something, that list is ever-changing, and you are as eager to learn what the competition is doing as you are in bringing those lessons to bear at LBC. Deconstruction is your middle name, creativity is your bread-and-butter, and resourcefulness is the stallion on which you ride into the sunset.

LBC Designers adhere to a holistic design philosophy, considering all areas of the user experience including business targets, the creative vision, design pillars, and the community of players who love and support us.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Lead Game Designer to develop and shape game systems and mechanics, and get buy-in from the team.
  • Drive significant areas of the game design and collaborate with artists and programmers to guide the look and implementation of features.
  • Work with the Lead Designer and Product Owner to identify and implement KPI-driven changes to the game via new features, new offers, and tuning of the above
  • Ensure that your design deliverables and tasks are properly tracked in JIRA and completed to the level of quality set by the Lead Designer. These tasks include, but are not limited to, character design, event design, dialogue, systems design, IAP offer design, and live operations management
  • Clearly document and communicate your game features to the team. Regularly update documentation to offer a useful work reference.
  • Fix design-focused bugs in data, and test your fixes
  • Mentor junior designers
  • Facilitate resolution of issues that require intervention, even on short notice or at odd hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a game design disciplines, ideally on multiple projects, including mobile and AAA releases, or equivalent experience and education
  • Live ops management and freemium design experience
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated end-to-end ownership of tasks and responsibilities
  • Experience designing systems, characters, and/or economies on multiple shipped titles
  • Strong creative and editorial skills–conceptualizing, pitching, and writing
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to speak comfortably and professionally with technical and non-technical team members
  • Strong Spreadsheet Skills
  • Solid organizational and project management skills with the ability to scope and prioritize
