As a confident art leader who both produces art and who coaches your team towards excellence, you have a thorough knowledge of what good art looks like, and can drive your vision forward in a hands-on manner. As the spokesperson for art at LBC, you will collaborate with producers, game designers, the development team, and senior management to set and maintain the standards for art quality and art-focused processes across LBC’s projects. With an innovative spirit in a start-up environment, you will contribute beyond the assigned tasks and actively seek new opportunities to add value to your team, to Hempire, and to LBC.

Qualifications/skills required:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in games with multiple shipped mobile game titles.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for people and project management
  • Broad knowledge and experience across multiple artistic disciplines, including different styles, illustration/concept art, animation, marketing-focused art, best practices for art pipelines, and more
  • The ability to anticipate complications early and suggest solutions while maintaining a strong visual result
  • Ability to produce high quality, accessible, and fresh designs
  • Fluent in Photoshop and Illustrator. Unity experience would be a big plus
  • Ability to give and receive constructive criticism and change work or hold your ground accordingly
  • Ability to create several designs around a single idea to give multiple choices to the team
  • Good editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds

Responsibilities:

  • Define, communicate and champion the game’s visual style ensuring it’s aligned with the target demographic and product goals
    • This includes in-game art, cinematics, marketing materials & other visual assets
  • Ensure a consistent art style across all areas of the product at all times
  • Lead your team, delegate, set and achieve sprint goals, set and maintain standards for artistic quality and quantity, and step in to create art as required by the product and team
  • Set the expectation among team of the highest levels of quality for all areas of art
  • Make sure that all art is delivered to the game in accordance to the technical requirements of the project
  • Consistently assess and refine the product’s UX to promote increased engagement and conversion among the player base
  • Provide input and feedback on how to improve all areas the of the player experience, when requested and within reasonable bounds of your experience
  • Work with management team to develop new game concepts
  • Provide art asset support on pitches, corporate assets, and internal and external documentation such as PowerPoint decks and similar ad-hoc projects
  • Promote a respectful environment for open critique and feedback within the team

About LBC:

LBC Studios is a Mobile Game Studio located in Downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. It was founded in February, 2015 by Solon Bucholtz and Dennis Molloy,  with the sole purpose of the creation and development of the first AAA-quality, marijuana-themed mobile application for Apple and Android platforms.

In concert with Adrian Crook and Associates of Vancouver, LBC designed Hempire and in August 2015, signed a development contract with Lumentech Brazil to handle the core engineering and development of Hempire, and in April 2017, Hempire was released world-wide on iOS and Android!

Hempire is a free-to-play story-driven farming game for mobile. The team creating Hempire is composed of around 30 people spanning two continents, and comprises more than a century of game-production experience. Our team members have been integral to the production of more than 100 titles ranging from the Need For Speed Racing franchise to Zynga’s Frontierville.

Our new 2D Animator/Motion Graphics Artist will bring exceptional creative artistry and vision to our growing local art team working on the world’s greatest weed-growing game, Hempire. The successful candidate will contribute to the conceptualization of game storylines and create in-game animations/animatics. The successful candidate needs to be an energetic, positive culture add to an already open and empowering team.

This is a full-time office role with the possibility of remote work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Bring characters and environments to life with motion and emotion using a broad range of 2D animation abilities
  • Work with the team to identify and solve problems, both technically and artistically
  • Demonstrate a broad range of technical and creative abilities to effectively deliver the overall look, attitude and style of the characters
  • Add final character features to enhance character appeal
  • Actively participate in team/department meetings
  • Mentor entry-level artists by providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that provide for their artistic and professional growth
  • Animate UI elements to enhance user experience
  • Create 2d particle effects to bring static environments to life
  • Support the marketing team by providing animations and motion graphics to be used in trailers and video ads

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • 2+ years of 2D animation production experience, ideally in games
  • Strong understanding of traditional 2D animation principles
  • Experience working with Photoshop required; Unity knowledge is advantageous
  • Working knowledge of Spine animation software
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, team-based setting
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills (English)
  • Good editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Diploma or relevant post-secondary education an asset
