QA Tester

The QA Tester will be a key member of our internal testing team at LBC Studios. The QA Tester will ensure that bugs are found and addressed in a timely manner, minimizing any impact to the live environment. The successful candidate will be required to work independently as well as working with both internal and remote teams. The ideal candidate will have proven team-play skills and will be focused on test quality.

This is a full-time contract position with the possibility of becoming FT employment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Vancouver-based studio, including but not limited to the design, development, marketing, and customer-service team, through end-to-end test planning and execution on LBC Studios’ products
  • Create and run test plans for the product, and work with the development team to update them as-needed
  • Participate in team meetings, as required
  • Test and track bugs in JIRA, and additional priority testing as required
  • Facilitate resolution of project-impacting issues that require intervention
  • Create QA test plan scripts as requested
  • Participate in slack and communicate with team as needed
  • Master the Hempire game
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Top-tier personal accountability and drive
  • 6 months of team-based Quality Assurance experience an asset
  • Experience with bug-tracking software an asset
  • Experience with mobile games and devices an asset
  • (Nice to have) – Online testing experience
  • (Nice to have) – Mobile testing experience

LBC Studios is a private company located in Langley, British Columbia (operating remotely and in downtown Vancouver) and was founded in February, 2015 by Solon Bucholtz and Dennis Molloy. LBC was founded with the sole purpose of the creation and development of the first AAA-quality, marijuana-themed mobile application for Apple and Android platforms.

Hempire is a mobile game that follows the freemium model of monetization. Server-Side Software Engineer

We are looking for a software engineer with strong server experience to tackle a variety of technical tasks for LBC Studios. The successful candidate will own their systems end-to-end and influence the direction of our technology while implementing flexible and scalable solutions. The successful candidate is a self-motivated team-player who will implement and maintain many aspects of Hempire’s continued development as well as support any new work that is identified.

This is an office role with the possibility of remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, update, and secure the current scalable server environment
  • Maintain and update the current LBC development infrastructure
  • Optimize server performance
  • Collaborate on the design and development of the server architecture
  • Support the software development life-cycle for the client
  • Maintain, update, and create build pipelines for the developed software and assets using Jenkins and the existing development infrastructure
  • Assess, develop, debug, maintain, and set standards for code
  • Scope and define project requirements
  • Collaborate with in-office and remote team members to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time
  • Drive improvements to process and direction
  • Develop tools, features, pipelines, and frameworks to be used in the development process
  • Take charge on improving our development processes and system architecture
  • Collaborate with project leads to identify engineering tasks
  • Work with designers and engineers to help deliver game features

Position Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of experience working as a server-side engineer using JAVA and PHP
  • Working knowledge of Spring, Hibernate, and other open-source technologies preferred
  • Working knowledge of PHP for scalable secure server development
  • Multiple shipped titles and backend servers
  • Experience building development build infrastructure and pipelines
  • Ability to comfortably move across high-level technical design, detailed technical design, implementation, and operational support
  • Experience gathering functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and creating project & test plans
  • Experience implementing integrating unit/integration/load tests
  • Familiar with more than one software development methodology, ideally experience with SCRUM and/or KANBAN
  • Working proficiency in English
