Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer

We are looking for a senior engineer with strong front- and back-end experience to tackle a variety of technical tasks for LBC Studios’ first game, Hempire. The successful candidate will own their systems end-to-end and influence the direction of our technology while implementing flexible and scalable solutions. The successful candidate is a self-motivated team-player who will implement and maintain many aspects of Hempire’s continued development including AWS, app security, build updating, source control, and additional server application development.

This is an office role with the possibility of remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, update, and secure the current scalable server environment
  • Maintain, update, and secure the current mobile client
  • Maintain and update the current LBC development infrastructure
  • Optimize client and server performance
  • Collaborate on the design and development of a Java microservices server architecture using open-source technologies
  • Support the software development life-cycle for the client and server
  • Maintain, update, and create a build pipelines for the developed software and assets using Jenkins and the existing development infrastructure
  • Assess, develop, debug, maintain, and set standards for code
  • Strong ability to scope and define project requirements
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with remote team members to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time
  • Drive improvements to process and direction
  • Develop tools, features, pipelines, and frameworks to be used in the development process
  • Take charge on improving our development processes and system architecture
  • Collaborate with project leads to establish engineering tasks and schedules
  • Work with designers and senior engineers to help drive game features
  • Provide technical leadership on a team of seasoned developers skilled in front-end technologies

Position Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience working as a server-side engineer using Java and client-side engineer using C# and Unity
  • Working knowledge of Spring, Hibernate, and other open-source technologies preferred
  • Working knowledge of PHP for scalable secure server development
  • Multiple shipped titles, clients and backend servers
  • Experience building development build infrastructure and pipelines
  • Ability to comfortably move across high-level technical design, detailed technical design, implementation, and operational support
  • Lead the gathering of functional requirements, developing technical specifications, and project & test planning
  • Experience implementing/integrating unit/integration/load tests
  • Familiar with more than one software development methodology, ideally experience with SCRUM and/or KANBAN
  • Working proficiency in English

The team creating Hempire is composed of 30 people spanning two continents, and comprises more than a century of game-production experience. Senior Server Software Engineer

2D Game Artist

Our new 2D Game Artist will bring exceptional creative artistry and vision to our art team working on the world’s greatest weed-growing game, Hempire. The successful candidate will create and implement in-game art, and will demonstrate versatility across the project including concepting, asset generation, motion graphics, and marketing art.  The successful candidate needs to be an energetic, positive culture add to an already open and empowering team.

This is a full-time office role with the possibility of remote work.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the art, engineering, and QA teams to conceptualize, generate, and implement 2D art for Hempire
  • Bring characters, props, iconography, and environments to life with motion and emotion using a broad range of 2D animation abilities
  • Work with the team to identify and solve problems, both technically and artistically
  • Demonstrate a broad range of technical and creative abilities to effectively deliver the overall look, attitude and style of the Hempire universe
  • Add final character features to enhance character appeal
  • Actively participate in team/department meetings
  • Create 2d particle effects to bring static environments to life
  • Support the marketing team by providing occasional art, animations, and motion graphics to be used in trailers and video ads

Qualifications/skills required:

  • 3+ years of 2D art production experience, ideally in games, preferably for mobile
  • A portfolio demonstrating a broad range of 2D artistry, preferably with samples similar to Hempire’s style
  • Strong understanding of traditional 2D art/animation principles
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume, team-based setting
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills (English)
  • Good editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working with Photoshop required; Unity knowledge an asset
  • Working knowledge of Spine animation software an asset
  • Experience with the Agile development methodology an asset
  • Diploma or relevant post-secondary education an asset
