Lead Software Engineer

We are seeking an experienced technical team leader to grow, maintain, and oversee all technical aspects of LBC’s projects. The successful candidate understands freemium mobile games running high-frequency live operations, will set and maintain standards across all programming practices, will manage a world-class team of engineers at different levels of experience, and will proactively identify and address technical risks. The most desirable hard skills the successful candidate will bring to the table are expertise in AWS, C# Unity, JAVA, and PHP, but they will also be approachable, ensuring that their team members are comfortable coming to them with concerns, and that their voices are heard across the team as a whole.

As our Lead Software Engineer you will have your eyes on the big picture—you are the technical vision holder at the studio, proactively identifying business and multi-project needs—but you’ll also ensure that the details required of happy, challenged, and high-performing technical teams are covered. You will leverage your expertise in the latest technologies and tools to add value across all technical implementations.

Finally, when the chips are down and your team is tired, you will jump in and get your hands dirty in the trenches alongside them.

This is a full-time in-office role with the possibility of some remote work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and update a secure and scalable server environment based on:
    • AWS managed by CloudFormation
    • Apache, PHP, PostgreSQL, and Redis
    • Ubuntu Server
  • Maintain and update the LBC development infrastructure based on:
    • Git, Gitolite, and Subversion
    • Python 3 and Flask
    • NGINX and uWSGI
    • Ubuntu Server
  • Create and maintain new build pipeline for the game client and assets that is based on Jenkins and interfaces with the existing development infrastructure
  • Provide additional development for the Unity3D/C#-based game client, targeting the Android and iOS mobile platforms
  • Provide technical assistance in publishing the game to the Apple, Google Play, and Amazon app stores
  • Program games and applications in C# / Unity or other languages as needed
  • Assess, develop, debug, maintain, and set code standards
  • Effectively scope and define project requirements
  • Work with existing frameworks, developing new frameworks and functional specifications
  • Aid in developing game concepts
  • Optimize game performance, code stability, code refactoring
  • Propose creative solutions to meet product goals and develop programming best practices
  • Develop admin tools and frameworks to aid in future release updates
    Work effectively in cross-functional teams; participate and contribute at team meetings
  • Mentor and lead other software engineers
  • Be a champion of our studio values and work to build consensus and buy-in from your team
  • Collaborate with remote team members to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time
  • Update all areas of the game client and the server application for any current and future projects
  • Provide additional Unity3D and server application development as needed

REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience leading technical teams in the games industry, with 8+ years of experience developing front- and back-end code and architecture
  • Experience in mobile and freemium (versus large-organization triple-A premium games)
  • Strong expertise in C# Unity, PHP, and JAVA
  • Demonstrated expertise in effective Agile workflows
  • Demonstrated experience in managing and scaling high-performing technical teams
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with creative teams, product teams, and product owners.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical issues with ease, even to less technical team members
  • Ability to adapt existing technical processes and demonstrate success

User Acquisition Analyst / User Acquisition Media Buyer

As a User Acquisition Analyst, you will use your mobile marketing experience to grow our games through a variety of channels. The successful candidate will lead growth across all relevant channels, continuously adjusting marketing spend to provide the greatest ROI. The candidate will be a seasoned marketer with excellent knowledge of the mobile/app space and will be as adept at creative problem-solving as they are at making data-driven decisions. Still, above all else, they will work every day to meet our KPI targets. You will define a high-level user acquisition strategy and constantly evaluate a variety of measurable aspects of marketing campaigns.

This is a full-time role with four days in office and one day work from home.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Launch, manage, optimize and report accurately mobile acquisition campaigns across all relevant paid channels in the structure defined by the marketing leadership team and marketing strategy.
  • Allocate and monitor budgets across ad networks, and explore new networks and budget changes on an ongoing basis
  • Obtain the highest ROI possible while meeting budget and defined KPI goals using the agreed buying model.
  • Establish benchmarks to evaluate campaign performance, and monitor that performance on an ongoing basis
  • Work alongside our development, community, and marketing teams to understand and leverage user behaviour to improve acquisition and retention.
  • Work closely with our Creative team to execute content strategies for user acquisition campaigns.
  • Work closely with the production team to propose improvements and ensure aligned UA strategies with product changes
    Work closely with our Data Science team to ensure accurate reporting and ensure all KPIS are met.
  • Be creative in coming up with and testing new initiatives, techniques, and approaches to drive acquisition, growth, and retention.
  • Source, evaluate, and test new user acquisition channels to grow and diversify sources of traffic.
  • Keep up-to-date with video-game, entertainment, social-network, and pop-culture trends to continuously educate all stakeholders.
  • Use analysis and industry metrics to evaluate brand and category performance and identify opportunities.
  • Generate and update detailed daily / weekly spend and performance reports around trends and key metrics specific to goals, and present reports to team management
  • Work closely and collaboratively without UA channel partners to ensure strong relationships and leverage UA opportunities
  • Work closely with our internal and external UA and marketing teams to ensure strong collaboration and results
  • Experience in the mobile gaming vertical

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least 3 years of experience working in mobile marketing roles
  • Experience managing, growing and optimizing mobile user acquisition campaigns and partnerships
  • Data-oriented. You feel comfortable working with large amounts of data, and you have unbeatable Excel-Fu
  • Obsession with growth strategies and biased towards action. You constantly iterate to find out what does and doesn’t work
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to be self-driven is a must, but you are comfortable with delegation and communications across a distributed team

Game Designer – Live Ops

LBC Studio’s Game Designers are the vision holders and front-line, in-the-trenches soldiers responsible for designing and executing fun, engaging, monetizing experiences. They are hungry to learn, lead, and grow alongside our rapidly evolving studio and games.

As an LBC designer your passion for video games extends well beyond that of being a player; you are a creator. You strive to understand the mechanics and psychologies behind game experiences. You are always playing something, that list is ever-changing, and you are as eager to learn what the competition is doing as you are in bringing those lessons to bear at LBC. Deconstruction is your middle name, creativity is your bread-and-butter, and resourcefulness is the stallion on which you ride into the sunset. LBC Designers adhere to a holistic design philosophy, considering all areas of the user experience including business targets, the creative vision, design pillars, and the community of players who love and support us.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Game Design on assigned project to develop and shape game systems and mechanics, and get buy-in from the team.
  • Work with the Lead Game Designer to develop and shape game systems and mechanics, and get buy-in from the team.
  • Drive significant areas of the game design and collaborate with artists and programmers to guide the look and implementation of features.
  • Work with the Lead Designer and Product Owner to identify and implement KPI-driven changes to the game via new features, new offers, and tuning of the above
  • Ensure that your design deliverables and tasks are properly tracked in JIRA and completed to the level of quality set by the Lead Designer.
  • These tasks include, but are not limited to, character design, event design, dialogue, systems design, IAP offer design, and live operations management
  • Clearly document and communicate your game features to the team.
  • Regularly update documentation to offer a useful work reference.
  • Fix design-focused bugs in data, and test your fixes
  • Mentor junior designers
  • Facilitate resolution of issues that require intervention, even on short notice if needed
  • Other duties as assigned

 REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of professional experience in a game design disciplines, ideally on multiple projects, including mobile and AAA releases, or equivalent experience and education
  • Must have Liveops management and freemium design experience
    Experience designing systems, characters, and/or economies on multiple shipped titles
  • Expert spreadsheet knowledge
  • Self-motivated and demonstrated end-to-end ownership of tasks and responsibilities
  • Strong creative and editorial skills–conceptualizing, pitching, and writing
  • Strong communication skills

  • Ability to speak comfortably and professionally with technical and non-technical team members

Intermediate Client-Side Engineer

We are looking for an Intermediate Software Engineer with strong game development experience to tackle a variety of technical tasks for LBC Studios’ portfolio of games, including the world’s best weed-growing game, Hempire. The successful candidate will be a seasoned professional who is equally at home speaking to anyone on our close-knit development team to hash out a complex problem efficiently, as they are putting their head down and crushing that complex code that will run our in-game events and keep the lights on in the studio. The successful candidate can define requirements, scope technical work, and deliver their work to a high degree of quality each and every sprint with the support of a great team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute tasks independently and provide end-to-end process management of technical tasks
  • Contribute to feedback on process and direction
  • Balance and solve problems of product design, development, and data needs
  • Work with designers, artists, engineers, production, and QA professionals to help drive game features from concept through to the shipped product
  • Provide technical contribution to a team of seasoned developers skilled in front-end technologies
  • Ability to scope and define project requirements
  • Optimize game performance
  • Develop tools, features, and pipelines to be used in the development process
  • Collaborate with project leads to establish engineering tasks and schedules

 Position Qualifications:

  • At least three  years’ development experience on mobile game teams 
  • At least three years’ development using Unity and C#
  • Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle management: assess, develop, debug, and maintain code
  • Advanced abilities in scoping and defining project requirements alongside creative and non-technical team members
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members to identify, produce, and deliver tasks on time
  • Comfortable working using the SCRUM/Agile methodology and in fast-paced environment
  • Expertise with GIT for source code management is preferred
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment to deliver high-quality work products
  • Ability to contribute to detailed system design and technical specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and initiative, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment and quickly acquire proficiency with new skills
